General Motors is expanding the lineup of the 2021 Buick GL8 Classic – also known as the GL8 25S – in China. The company just added two new mid-range variants of the longer-lived GL8, which are equipped with the latest Buick driver assistance systems to satisfy customers and further strengthen its extensive sales leadership in the country.
Specifically, the new mid-range versions of the 2021 Buick GL8 Classic that expand the offering in the Chinese market are called Smart Luxury and Smart Premium. Both are characterized by offering more standard equipment and new active safety technologies, with which Buick seeks to offer a smarter, safer and more enjoyable driving experience. With them, the GL8 Classic range offers a total of seven variants.
The two versions introduce the Buick GL8 Classic to the latest generation of Buick’s driver assistance system, which debuted this year in the new GL8 Avenir. It includes six high-resolution cameras and multiple sensors that provide comprehensive monitoring using adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, lane departure warning, Following Distance Indicator, forward collision alert, and autonomous emergency braking.
In addition to the 12-inch central touchscreen and digital instrument panel with full connectivity, from the Smart Luxury version up, the 2021 Buick GL8 Classic is now equipped with a Rear Camera Mirror, a 360-degree surround camera system, blind-spot monitoring and active park assist. The full-size MPV offers ample space and comfort for seven passengers, with a completely flat floor and convenient features like reclining seats, three-zone climate control, and up to 10 charge ports.
All versions of the second-generation Buick GL8 Classic, which reached its third design update in 10 years, are equipped with the turbocharged 2.0L LSY I-4 engine that delivers 233 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, mated to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission. Thanks to this state-of-the-art engine, the GL8 Classic meets China’s rigorous VI B emissions standard.
